It is an ongoing effort to improve education in our communities and increase the numbers of Hispanic who study science and engineering. In this way we also help to ensuring that the Hispanic community will be able to do its part to meet the challenges that America will face in the 21st century. MAES PreCollege is a nationwide, student-oriented activity sponsored by MAES and implemented by its student and professional chapters in various cities throughout the United States. In conducting outreach activities, MAES members work directly with Hispanic youths in high schools and junior high schools to promote student success. Depending on the student chapter, tutoring sessions vary at the high or middle school. The tutoring sessions are held during lunch or after school. Junior High School ActivitiesMAES students work directly with junior high school youth, exposing them to technical career opportunities and preparing them to study in the field. These activities are accomplished by: - Promoting college education as a realistic and achievable goal
- Interesting parents in the engineering and science fields as a career for their children
- Sharing information with students and creating a feeling of excitement about education
